Wolf Appliance Repair

We service Wolf cooking equipment as an independent appliance repair company: dual-fuel and gas ranges, rangetops and cooktops, built-in wall ovens, steam and convection ovens, and ventilation. This is professional-style equipment built to be serviced, which is the single most useful thing about it: the parts that fail are individually replaceable rather than sold as sealed assemblies.

  • Median cooking-appliance repair in our book: $363 across 62 priced repairs, middle half $291 to $458
  • Dual fuel means two heat systems in one cabinet: gas burners above, an electric oven below, each with its own fault list
  • Built-in ovens run $367 with a top quarter reaching $471, against $317 to $436 for freestanding ranges — the gap is access, not parts
  • $99 diagnostic, applied to the repair the moment you approve it

Cooking appliances are the longest-lived machines in a kitchen, published at 13 to 17 years depending on fuel, and professional-style equipment is built to outlast that. What it needs is a technician who knows which of the two heat systems is talking, and the discipline to test rather than swap.

Burner will not light, or oven off temperature?

We carry igniters, spark modules, sensors and elements, so most cooking calls finish on the first visit. The $99 diagnostic comes off the repair when you approve it.

Stated plainly: we are an independent repair company, not a factory-authorised Wolf service centre, and we do not perform warranty work on the manufacturer’s behalf. Inside the original warranty, use the manufacturer’s channel. Outside it, an independent technician is usually quicker to get to you and works to the same parts.

Dual Fuel: Two Machines in One Cabinet

The reason dual fuel exists is that the two halves of cooking want different things. Gas burners give immediate, visible control at the hob, and an electric oven holds a steadier, drier heat than a gas cavity, which is what baking prefers. Putting both in one cabinet gets you the better half of each.

For service it means the diagnosis starts with one question: is the fault above or below? A burner that clicks and never lights and an oven that runs cold have nothing in common on these machines — different circuits, different parts, different prices. Owners often describe both at once because they noticed them the same week, and separating them saves a visit.

Above the deck, the fault list is short and inexpensive: spark electrodes fouled by spillover, a spark module, a burner port blocked, a switch. Below it, the list is the ordinary electric-oven one: bake and broil elements, the temperature sensor, hinges and door seals, and the control board as the wild card.

What the Work Costs

Every figure is from our own completed jobs, counted the same way across this site: a completed repair is a job billed above the diagnostic fee with sales tax on it, which in our record means above $108.90.

Cooking appliance repair cost, Neighborville completed jobs
MeasureFigureBase
Median finished repair$36362 priced cooking-appliance repairs
Middle half of repairs$291 to $458the 25th to 75th percentile
Freestanding range or stove$35826 priced repairs, middle half $317 to $436
Built-in wall and double ovens$36730 priced repairs, top quarter reaching $471
All appliances, company-wide$355668 priced repairs
Diagnostic visit$99flat, applied to the repair on approval

The two middle rows are the interesting comparison. Built-in sits a little above freestanding at the centre, $367 against $358, and much further above it at the top: the built-in top quarter reaches $471 against $436, because a wall oven has to be unfastened and drawn out of its opening before most work starts. That is labour, and it is the honest reason premium built-in work costs more. The category breakdown is in the oven repair cost database.

Faults We See Most on This Equipment

  • Burner clicks and will not light. Spark electrode fouled with spillover first, then the spark module. Clearing a burner port with a pin costs nothing and fixes a fair share of these
  • Oven runs cold, or bakes unevenly. Temperature sensor or calibration before anything else. An oven thermometer on the middle rack at 350 for twenty minutes settles it
  • Oven will not heat at all on a dual fuel. Element or the relay that switches it; the gas side being healthy tells you nothing about the electric side
  • Gas oven glows and never ignites. The classic weak igniter: still glowing, no longer drawing enough current to open the safety valve
  • Door will not pull itself square. Hinges, springs or a hardened gasket. A heavy pro-style door leaks heat continuously once the hinge is tired, which reads as an oven that cannot hold temperature
  • Griddle or grill zone uneven. Controls and thermostats on that zone, and on infrared burners the emitter condition
  • Hood loud at high speed. Grease-loaded baffles unbalance the blower wheel, which then wears its bearings

Our diagnostic sequence for the most common oven complaint is in an oven that will not heat to the set temperature, and the ventilation side in vent hood repair.

Why This Equipment Is Worth Repairing

Three reasons, and they compound.

It was designed to be serviced. Burners, igniters, valves, elements and sensors are separate components on these machines rather than sealed modules, so a fault usually means one part rather than an assembly. That is not true of every appliance in a modern kitchen.

Cooking appliances live a long time. The published figures are 15 to 17 years for a gas range and 13 to 15 for electric, and equipment built to professional specification tends toward the top of that. A twelve-year-old range with a failed igniter is a twelve-year-old range with a failed igniter.

Replacement is a project. A rangetop sits in a cut-out, a wall oven in a cased opening, and both are matched to the cabinetry and the ventilation around them. Modern dimensions do not always match older ones, which is why we repair equipment here at price points where a freestanding machine would be replaced. The general arithmetic is in the repair or replace calculator and the age-by-age version in how long ovens last.

The Limiting Factor Is Parts, Not Condition

Because this equipment lasts so long, the honest constraint on a very old unit is availability rather than wear. Functional parts — igniters, elements, sensors, thermostats, valves — are supplied for a long period and are often cross-compatible. Control boards, trim and cosmetic parts for discontinued models are the ones that run out.

That changes what you should do about a small fault on an older machine: fix the cheap thing now, while the parts still exist, rather than waiting until two things have failed. We check availability during the diagnosis and say so before you commit, because a repair that cannot be completed is worse than no repair.

What a Diagnosis Involves

On cooking equipment the sequence is short and definite. Supply confirmed, gas and electric as applicable. Actual cavity temperature read against the set point with a calibrated instrument rather than the display. Elements tested for continuity and resistance, or igniter draw and valve coil resistance measured on gas. Flame pattern and burner ports inspected. Sensor resistance checked cold, since a drifting sensor is the most commonly missed cause of uneven baking. Door seal and hinge tension checked, because that is a free finding that explains a lot of complaints. Then the control, last, once everything mechanical is proved.

You get the fault named, the part named, availability confirmed and the total before anything is ordered, and the $99 comes off that total when you approve the work.

Maintenance That Earns Its Time

  • Keep burner ports clear with a pin rather than a toothpick, which snaps off inside the port
  • Wipe spillover before it bakes on. Carbonised spill is what fouls spark electrodes and starts the clicking
  • Use self-clean sparingly on older cavities. It runs far hotter than cooking ever does and is hard on hinges, locks and boards
  • Degrease hood baffles monthly. They go through the dishwasher, and a loaded blower wheel is the usual reason a hood turns noisy
  • Verify oven temperature once a year with a cheap thermometer. Calibration drifts slowly and cooks adapt without noticing
  • Descale a steam oven on the interval the manual gives, and sooner in hard water
  • Do not line the oven floor with foil. It blocks the airflow the design depends on and reflects heat back into the element

Where We Work

Professional-style kitchens cluster in specific markets, and those are where most of this work comes from: the South Florida coast, the Naples area, north Atlanta and Tampa Bay. The full list of cities with local numbers is on our service areas page. For built-in refrigeration the equivalent page is Sub-Zero refrigerator repair, and for pro ranges from another maker, Viking appliance repair.

Rangetops Against Ranges

Worth separating, because the two look similar in a brochure and behave differently in service. A rangetop is the cooking deck alone, dropped into a cut-out with cabinetry or a wall oven beneath it. A range is the deck with its own oven underneath in one cabinet.

For repairs the rangetop is the easier machine. There is no oven cavity under the deck, so burner and valve work is reached from above or through the front without moving a heavy appliance, and a fault on the cooking surface never involves the oven at all. Where it costs more is installation: a rangetop is plumbed and wired into a fitted run, so replacing one is joinery rather than a delivery.

The practical consequence for an owner is which quote to expect. A burner or ignition fault on a rangetop is among the cheaper jobs in our cooking book. The same fault on a range means working around the oven below it, and if the oven has to come out to reach a gas manifold, that is the labour showing up on the invoice rather than a dearer part.

The other professional cooking brand we cover is Thermador appliance repair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you repair Wolf appliances?
Yes, as an independent appliance repair company: dual-fuel and gas ranges, rangetops and cooktops, built-in wall and double ovens, steam and convection ovens, and ventilation. We are not a factory-authorised Wolf service centre and do not carry out warranty work for the manufacturer, so if the appliance is inside its original warranty, use the manufacturer’s channel first.
How much does Wolf appliance repair cost?
From our own completed jobs: a median finished repair of $363 across 62 priced cooking-appliance repairs, with the middle half between $291 and $458. Freestanding ranges sit at $358 across 26 repairs with a middle half of $317 to $436, and built-in wall and double ovens at $367 across 30 repairs with a top quarter reaching $471. The $99 diagnostic is applied to the repair when you approve it.
My burner clicks but will not light. What is it?
Start with the spark electrode, the small ceramic-tipped pin beside the burner. Spillover carbonises on it and it stops sparking cleanly, and wiping it dry and clearing the burner ports with a pin fixes a real share of these at no cost. If the electrode is clean and the click is present but there is no flame, the spark module or that burner’s switch is next.
The oven on my dual fuel will not heat, but the burners work fine. Why?
Because they are two separate systems. On a dual-fuel range the burners are gas and the oven is electric, with their own circuits and their own parts, so a healthy hob tells you nothing about the cavity. An oven that will not heat on one of these is the bake element, the relay that switches it, or the control — the same list as any electric oven.
Is a pro-style range more expensive to repair?
Somewhat, and the reason is labour and part volumes rather than the badge. Heavy doors, cast grates and sealed burners take longer to work on, and components made in small numbers cost more than mass-market equivalents. In our own book built-in cooking work reaches $471 in its top quarter against $436 for freestanding, and it sits a little above freestanding at the centre too, $367 against $358.
Can you still get parts for a fifteen-year-old range?
Usually for the functional components: igniters, elements, sensors, thermostats and valves are supplied for a long period and are often cross-compatible. Control boards and cosmetic parts for discontinued models are the harder ones. That is why fixing a small fault while the parts exist is a better bet on an older machine than waiting until two things have failed.
My oven bakes unevenly. Is that expensive?
Usually not. Uneven baking points at the temperature sensor or lost calibration rather than the element, and that work sits in the lower half of our cooking-appliance range. Check it yourself first: put a thermometer on the middle rack, set 350, and read it after twenty minutes. A gap of more than about 25 degrees, or a reading that keeps moving, is worth a call.
Does the self-clean cycle damage these ovens?
On older cavities it can, and it is one of the more common ways a working oven becomes a repair. Self-clean runs the cavity far hotter than any cooking does, and that heat is hard on door locks, hinges, wiring and the control board. Using it before a holiday is one thing; using it monthly on a twelve-year-old range is asking for a board.
