A coil packed with that is insulated, and an insulated coil cannot dump heat. Cleaning it is genuinely the cheapest meaningful thing anyone can do for a refrigerator, and on machines that have never had it done, the difference in running time is measurable.
The condenser fan. Down near the compressor, it pushes air across the coil. When it fails, the machine gets warm slowly over a day or two, the compressor gets very hot, and the freezer usually holds longer than the fresh food section. It is a defined part at $150 to $330 fitted.
The evaporator fan. Inside, usually behind a panel in the freezer, this one circulates cold air between the freezer and the fresh food compartment. Doors, Seals and a Floor That Has Settled
In an old house the floor is not a straight line, and a refrigerator is unusually sensitive to that.
A refrigerator door is heavy and it hangs off hinges on one side. Modern machines are designed to swing closed under their own weight from a small angle, which is why they are supposed to sit very slightly tilted back. If the floor has settled so the machine leans forward or sideways, that self-closing behaviour is lost. The door then sits fractionally open after every use, and nobody notices, because it looks shut.
In Florida that fractional gap matters far more than it would elsewhere. Warm, humid air flows in continuously. The compressor never gets to stop. The related finding is the seal that touches at three corners and not the fourth. A gasket has to be evenly compressed all the way round, and on a machine that is out of square it cannot be.
