Next is the door lock or lid switch. A front-loader will not spin unless the lock reports locked and a top-loader will not spin unless the lid switch reports closed. Both are consumable parts that fail with use, both are inexpensive, and a machine that fills and washes normally then goes silent at the spin is pointing straight at them.

The tub seal is the expensive one, and on a front-loader a leaking tub seal usually arrives with a rumbling or grinding on spin, because the bearings behind it are going the same way.
