Two Things to Check Before You Book Anyone

A refrigerator has one job, which is to move heat from inside the box to the air in your kitchen. Almost everything that goes wrong with the cooling is a failure somewhere in that heat path, and two links in the chain are things you can inspect yourself in fifteen minutes.

The condenser coil. On most units it is behind a grille at the bottom front or on the back, and it is a radiator. Its whole purpose is to give heat to the room, and it does that through thin fins with air passing between them. Dust, pet hair and, in this climate, a fine film of everything else pack those fins solid over a few years. A packed coil cannot dump heat, so the compressor runs longer and longer trying to reach a temperature it can no longer reach, and the household reports a fridge that never quite keeps up and a compressor that seems to be always on.
