The microwave line is worth pausing on. Nine years, the same as a dishwasher, and it is the one appliance in the kitchen where a single part can genuinely be worth more than a replacement machine. \nCompare the parts list. A washer has a bearing, a seal, a pump, a motor, a drain and a board. A dishwasher adds heated water and detergent chemistry to a similar list. A refrigerator runs a sealed refrigeration circuit twenty-four hours a day for a decade.
\nAn oven has an element or a burner, a thermostat or a sensor, a door with hinges and a seal, and on newer machines a control board. Nothing circulates, nothing is under pressure, and no water touches anything. The gap between a range at $359 and a built-in oven at $359 looks small until you look at the top quarter, where the built-in figure runs to $485 against $449. The parts are similar; the access is not. Pulling a wall oven out of a cased opening is a two-person job before anyone touches a screwdriver, and that is the number that ends up on the invoice. The built-in column is the one that surprises people. A wall oven sits in an opening cut to its dimensions, often with a matching panel and a cabinet built around it, and modern replacements rarely match an older cut-out. \nThe chart gives a range or oven hood 14 years, which puts it in the same bracket as the appliance underneath, and in practice hoods fail for one reason: grease. Baffles and filters that are never degreased load the blower wheel until it is out of balance, and an unbalanced wheel wears its bearings and rattles at high speed. A hood whose filters go through the dishwasher every couple of months tends to outlive the range below it.

\n\nInduction, Radiant and Gas: Different Clocks
\nCooktops are worth separating from ovens because they age differently. A gas hob is close to indestructible: burners, caps and igniters are all replaceable individually, and there is very little electronics to fail. A radiant ceramic top is simple electrically but fragile physically, and a cracked surface is usually the end of the appliance on cost grounds rather than a repair.

The cooking surface is the same vulnerable glass, but underneath it are power boards and cooling fans that do not exist on a radiant machine, which adds failure points while removing the exposed element.
