KitchenAid Appliance Repair
KitchenAid Appliance Repair
We repair KitchenAid refrigerators, dishwashers, ranges, wall ovens, cooktops and microwaves as an independent service company. The engineering underneath is Whirlpool’s, which is good news for parts and for diagnosis — what you have paid extra for is the cabinet, the insulation and the racking.
- Parts availability is strong and stays strong, because these platforms are used in volume across several badges
- Check the paperwork first — on machines under about ten years old, some major components carry longer coverage than the rest of the appliance
- Built-in installs change the visit, not the fault: custom panels, stone worktops and flooring over the feet all add access time
- $99 diagnostic, applied to the repair when you approve it
- Median finished repair across our whole book: $346, middle half $255 to $418
KitchenAid sits in an unusual position: premium pricing on mainstream engineering. For a repair that combination works in your favour, because the failure modes are well documented and the parts are the ones made in the largest numbers. The premium part of the machine — the tub, the insulation, the racking, the door — is mostly the part that does not break.
KitchenAid appliance down?
Give us the model number and, if it is a built-in, say so. The $99 diagnostic is applied to the repair on approval.
Check the Warranty Before You Pay Anyone
Do this before booking us or anyone else, because it can change who should be doing the work and at whose cost. Manufacturers commonly cover certain major components for considerably longer than the general one-year term — sealed-system parts in refrigeration are the usual example — and the terms differ by model, by year and by whether the appliance was registered.
So: find the documents, note the purchase date, and read what is actually covered rather than relying on a rule of thumb. If a sealed-system fault is covered, that is a manufacturer conversation. If the fault is a fan, a sensor, a pump or a lock, it almost certainly is not covered beyond the first year and an independent repair is the sensible route.
We will tell you plainly if we think a fault falls into the covered category. It costs us a diagnostic visit and it saves you a repair bill, and it is the right way round.
What We Work On
| Appliance | Typical calls |
|---|---|
| Refrigerators, French door and side by side | Warm fresh-food section, defrost faults, ice-maker problems, water leaks |
| Built-in and counter-depth refrigeration | Condenser clearance and heat rejection, fans, sensors |
| Dishwashers | Not draining, not cleaning, standing water, leaks, door latch |
| Ranges and cooktops | Burners and igniters, elements, controls, oven not reaching temperature |
| Wall ovens, single and double | Temperature accuracy, elements, door hinges and seals, controls |
| Microwaves, including over-range | No heat, turntable and door faults, control panels |
Stand mixers and other countertop products are a different business entirely and not something we service — this page is about the major kitchen appliances that are plumbed and wired in.
Premium Cabinet, Mainstream Mechanism
Worth understanding because it explains both the price of the appliance and the price of its repairs. KitchenAid is the upper tier of the Whirlpool group, and mechanically its machines share platforms, transmissions, pumps, controls and most parts with Whirlpool-badged equivalents. Where the money went is elsewhere: heavier sound insulation, stainless tubs, taller cavities, third-level racks, better racking hardware, panel-ready doors and stronger hinges.
Two practical consequences. First, a repair on a KitchenAid should not cost dramatically more than the same repair on a Whirlpool, because it is frequently the same part — if a quote implies otherwise, ask which component and why. Second, the insulation that makes these machines quiet also removes diagnostic clues: on a dishwasher you cannot hear the drain pump, so it has to be measured rather than judged by ear. That specific case is set out in KitchenAid dishwasher not draining.
The platform detail behind the shared parts is in Whirlpool dishwasher not draining and Whirlpool refrigerator not cooling, both of which apply directly to a KitchenAid of the same generation.
What the Work Costs
Our own completed jobs, counted the same way everywhere on this site: a completed repair is a job billed above the $99 diagnostic. These are all makes, not KitchenAid alone.
| Category | Median | Middle half | Repairs |
|---|---|---|---|
| All appliances | $346 | $255 to $418 | 696 |
| Refrigeration | $375 | $250 to $458 | 254 |
| Cooking | $359 | $275 to $459 | 63 |
| Dishwashers | $299 | $250 to $375 | 69 |
| Diagnostic visit | $99 | flat | applied to the repair |
The honest observation from that table: dishwashers are the cheapest category we work on and refrigeration the dearest, and the split has nothing to do with the badge. What can add to a KitchenAid job is access on a true built-in — a custom door panel, brackets into a stone worktop, or flooring laid over the machine’s feet all take time to work around. That is labour rather than parts, and it is worth mentioning when you book so the visit is planned for it.
Faults We See Most
- Dishwasher not draining. Filter, sump, hose, high loop, disposal inlet, then the check valve or pump. Often free to resolve
- Dishwasher not cleaning. Water temperature, spray arms and the filter before any part — see the same diagnosis for this platform
- Refrigerator warm on top, cold below. Defrost, evaporator fan, damper or a thermistor. Ordinary repairs, not the compressor
- Ice maker not producing. Fill valve, fill tube frosting, or a machine that has not been at temperature long enough
- Oven temperature drifting. Sensor first, element second, control last — and worth measuring rather than recalibrating blind
- Doors and hinges. Heavy panel-ready doors drop over years, which shows up as poor sealing on a fridge and heat loss on an oven
The individual symptom guides are in our Resources library, and the cost databases per appliance are linked from each.
Repair or Replace
Three questions settle it, in this order. Is the specific part available for this model — because on any make that is the real limit rather than age. What class of fault is it: airflow, sensors, pumps and locks are ordinary work at any age, while sealed-system refrigeration work on a machine past its published life expectancy is where replacement becomes genuine. And what does the rest of the appliance look like — a good pump in a machine with a perished door seal and rusting racks is money going into a queue of other bills.
On KitchenAid the first question usually answers well, because Whirlpool platforms keep their parts in circulation for years. That tilts the arithmetic toward repairing, particularly on built-in equipment where replacement means cabinetry work as well as an appliance. Published life expectancy by appliance is in how long dishwashers last and how long refrigerators last.
What a Diagnosis Involves
The model number recorded so the parts list is the right one; the installation assessed, since a built-in changes access rather than the fault; any stored fault history read rather than cleared, because on a quiet machine the machine’s own record is often the best evidence; the symptom reproduced where possible, so the finding is observed rather than inferred; the relevant circuit measured — pump windings and supply voltage, sensor resistance against specification, element continuity, heat rejection and airflow; the mechanical parts checked by hand; and part availability confirmed for your specific model before anything is agreed.
You get the fault named, the part named, availability confirmed and the total quoted before anything is ordered, with the $99 coming off it when you approve the work.
Maintenance That Matters on These Machines
- Dishwasher filter monthly, and fortnightly if you run a full third rack — more loading surface means more debris at the same filter
- Condenser coils twice a year on refrigeration, and more often on a counter-depth or built-in where clearance is tight
- Rinse aid kept topped up, which does more for glassware than any change of detergent
- Descaling cycle every few months in hard water, because scale blocks spray jets one at a time and coats heating elements
- Door seals wiped on both fridges and dishwashers; residue on a sealing face holds a door fractionally open
- Hinges checked on heavy doors, since a door that no longer pulls itself square is the start of several other complaints
Finding the Model Number on Each Appliance
It is the one thing that turns a two-visit job into one, and on premium equipment it is not always where you expect.
| Appliance | Look here |
|---|---|
| Refrigerator | Inside the fresh-food compartment: a side wall, the ceiling, or behind the bottom drawer |
| Dishwasher | On the tub edge, visible with the door open — often on the left-hand side |
| Range or cooktop | Behind the storage drawer, on the frame under the cooktop, or on the oven door frame |
| Wall oven | On the frame behind the door, usually along one side |
| Over-range microwave | Behind the door on the frame, or on the back panel where accessible |
| Panel-ready built-in | Often only reachable with the custom panel off — say so when booking |
Photograph the plate rather than copying it out. These numbers run to a dozen characters and one wrong digit orders a part that does not fit, which is the commonest reason a repair needs a second appointment. If the plate is genuinely unreachable behind a custom panel, tell us that too — it changes how the visit is planned rather than making it impossible.
What to Expect From the Visit
The diagnostic is a flat $99 and it comes off the repair when you approve the work, so the decision you are making at the door is whether to have the fault identified — not whether to commit to a repair. Nothing is ordered and nothing is dismantled beyond what the diagnosis needs until you have a total in front of you.
If the part is on the van the work is usually finished in the same visit. If it has to be ordered you get the part named, its availability confirmed and the total before it is bought, and a return appointment. Where a fault turns out to fall under manufacturer coverage we will tell you rather than quote for it, which is the point of reading the paperwork first.
Where We Work
Every market we cover, because this is equipment found in a great many kitchens: Tampa Bay and the Sarasota coast, South Florida including Boca Raton and Aventura, Naples, Houston, north Atlanta, Chicago, Columbus and Philadelphia. The full list with local numbers is on our service areas page. For built-in premium refrigeration and cooking the equivalent pages are Sub-Zero refrigerator repair and Wolf appliance repair.
For true built-in premium equipment — refrigeration columns and professional ranges — the brand page is Thermador appliance repair.
The same group’s laundry-led brand is covered on Maytag appliance repair.
The parent group’s brand page is Whirlpool appliance repair.
