Dishwashers fail in two ways that feel like one: they stop draining, or they stop cleaning. The first is usually a blockage you can reach yourself, the second is usually water not getting where it should, and neither of them starts with an expensive part. The diagnostic is $99 and is waived when you approve the repair, every job carries a 90-day parts-and-labour warranty, and we work ten metro areas. Florida and general (863) 474-2970, Texas (281) 205-1474.
The filter at the bottom is the part most owners never knew existed. Modern dishwashers dropped the food grinder and rely on a filter you are supposed to rinse, and when it packs solid the machine recirculates dirty water, drains slowly and smells. A large share of not-cleaning calls end at that filter.
After that, it is water delivery. Spray arms block up with debris and scale, the wash pump loses pressure, and in hard-water areas mineral build-up coats everything including the heating element. Hard water is the reason the same machine cleans well in one city and badly in another, and it is worth knowing which you have.
| Repair | Typical cost, parts and labour |
|---|---|
| Door gasket | $90 to $180 |
| Inlet valve | $90 to $200 |
| Spray arm | $100 to $200 |
| Heating element | $120 to $240 |
| Drain pump | $150 to $320 |
| Control board | $200 to $525 |
| Wash or circulation pump | $200 to $420 |
Figures are the medians of the ranges already published on our nine metro dishwasher pages, for parts and labour on a named repair. The $99 diagnostic sits outside them and comes off when you approve the work.
Each of these costs nothing and each one resolves a real share of the calls we get. A technician arriving to do something you could have done in five minutes is a bad outcome for both of us.
Rinse it under a tap. If it was packed, run an empty hot cycle afterwards and see how the machine behaves before booking anyone.
Blocked holes mean water is not reaching the top rack. A cocktail stick clears them.
The hose has to rise before it falls, or the machine siphons and sits in dirty water.
| What you notice | Usual suspects, cheapest first |
|---|---|
| Water standing in the bottom | Filter, then the drain hose loop, then the drain pump |
| Dishes gritty or still dirty | Filter and spray arms first, then wash pump pressure, then hard water scale |
| Glasses cloudy and never clear | Hard water and rinse aid, a water problem rather than a machine fault |
| Leaking at the door | Door gasket, then the door latch not pulling the door square |
| Will not start or dies mid-cycle | Door latch switch, then the control board |
The wash pump and the control board are the two repairs that get close to replacement cost on a builder-grade machine, and if both are suspect at once the answer is usually a new dishwasher. Filters, spray arms, gaskets, latches, valves and drain pumps are all worth doing, and on a good built-in the repair wins comfortably. If you want to run the numbers yourself first, the repair-vs-replace calculator and the appliance lifespan database are the two pages worth ten minutes.
Twenty-nine cities have their own dishwasher page, written for that city rather than copied from a template. If your address is in one of them, start there.
Every city we cover is on the locations index, with Florida and Texas hubs. Not listed? Call anyway, we cover a wider area than we have pages for.
Water chemistry decides how a dishwasher behaves more than the badge on the door does. In hard-water areas scale coats the heating element, the spray arms and the inside of the tub, and the same machine that cleans perfectly in one city leaves a film in another. That is a water problem, not a fault, and the fix is rinse aid, the right detergent and sometimes a softener rather than a repair. Our guide on how hard water affects a dishwasher covers what actually works.
We repair all major brands, including Bosch, Whirlpool, GE, KitchenAid, Frigidaire, Samsung, LG, Maytag, Miele and Thermador, and panel-ready built-ins where taking the cabinet panel off and refitting it is part of the job rather than an extra. What we do not do is install a dishwasher as a standalone job, or work on a unit that has been through flood water, where the safe answer is replacement.
Before approving a larger repair, it is worth knowing where the machine sits in its life: how long dishwashers last gives the published figure, our own repair costs and the point at which replacing wins.
Running costs, published figures and the faults that raise them: how much water a dishwasher uses.
Two to three hours is normal on a modern machine, and a cycle that has grown is a fault: how long a dishwasher runs.
Half the calls we take for poor cleaning are solved by the filter and the spray arms: how to clean a dishwasher.
Quiet, low-water machines are more sensitive to the filter and the drain than most: Bosch appliance repair.
Two guides cover most of the calls we take on dishwashers: dishwasher not draining and dishwasher not cleaning dishes.
Installation faults account for a real share of dishwasher call-outs, and the drain hose is where most of them live: the dishwasher drain hose.
Standing water in the tub is the complaint we hear most, and often it is the plumbing rather than the appliance: water in the bottom of a dishwasher.
Water on the kitchen floor is the one dishwasher fault worth treating as urgent: dishwasher leaking.

Each appliance has a page of its own covering how it fails, what the repair costs and when replacing beats fixing. If the machine giving you trouble is not the one on this page, start with its own.
