Cooktop work does not get a separate page in each town, because it is not a separate job: a built-in cooktop and a wall oven in one kitchen are one visit, one technician, one truck stock of igniters, spark modules, infinite switches and surface elements. The city-level detail therefore sits on that city’s oven and range page, and each one is written for its own city. Gas, electric coil, smooth glass ceramic and induction are all in scope.
Tampa Bay, Southwest Florida. Call (863) 474-2970.
Greater Houston and Galveston Bay. Call (281) 205-1474.
If your city is not listed, this page is the right one to call from, we cover a wider area than we have pages for. Full city list on our locations index, plus the Florida and Texas service area hubs.
Cooktops break in three quite different ways depending on what is under the surface. Gas fails at the igniter and the burner ports, electric coil fails at the element and its receptacle, and glass or induction fails at the switch, the surface element or the board underneath. The price follows the type, not the symptom. The diagnostic is $99 and is waived when you approve the repair, every job carries a 90-day parts-and-labour warranty, and we work ten metro areas. Florida and general (863) 474-2970, Texas (281) 205-1474.
The single most common gas fault is not a part at all. Spill residue blocks the burner ports, so one burner will not light while the others are fine, and a technician clears it in twenty minutes. The second most common is moisture: after heavy rain or in a humid kitchen every igniter clicks continuously and will not stop, which is alarming and is not a failure.
Glass and induction cooktops are the opposite. There is very little you can do from the outside, the diagnosis is electrical, and a cracked surface is a genuine repair rather than a write-off. The glass is replaceable on most units and costs far less than a new appliance.
| Repair | Typical cost, parts and labour |
|---|---|
| Clearing blocked gas burner ports | $90 to $120 |
| Drying and cleaning igniters after moisture | $90 to $130 |
| Surface element replacement | $120 to $200 |
| Infinite switch replacement | $100 to $160 |
| Gas burner igniter replacement | $110 to $170 |
| Spark module replacement | $120 to $190 |
| Glass surface replacement | $180 to $320 |
| Induction control board replacement | $200 to $360 |
Figures are the ranges published on our Tampa cooktop page and cover parts and labour on a named repair. The $99 diagnostic sits outside them and comes off when you approve the work.
Each of these costs nothing and each one resolves a real share of the calls we get. A technician arriving to do something you could have done in five minutes is a bad outcome for both of us.
One dead burner on a gas cooktop while the rest work is nearly always spill residue in the ports. This is free and it works.
Continuous clicking on every burner is moisture, not failure. Leave the burners dry and give it time before calling.
A coil that does not sit properly in its receptacle heats intermittently or not at all.
| What you notice | Usual suspects, cheapest first |
|---|---|
| One gas burner will not light, others fine | Blocked burner port, then that burner igniter |
| All burners click and will not stop | Moisture in the igniter system, common after rain |
| Glass surface cracked | Surface replacement, usually far cheaper than a new cooktop |
| Induction element does not heat | Element, then the control board underneath |
| Coil element heats intermittently | Element seating, then the receptacle, then the infinite switch |
A cracked glass top is the moment most people assume the appliance is finished, and it usually is not: the surface is a part. The point where replacement wins is a failed board on a cheap induction unit, where the part is brand-specific and the price sits close to a new cooktop. If you want to run the numbers yourself first, the repair-vs-replace calculator and the appliance lifespan database are the two pages worth ten minutes.
Gas, electric coil, glass ceramic and induction are four different appliances that happen to sit in the same hole in the counter. Gas is mechanical and forgiving: ports, igniters, spark modules, mostly cheap. Coil is the simplest of all, an element and a receptacle. Glass ceramic hides its elements under a sealed surface, so the surface itself becomes a repairable part and a crack is not the end of the appliance. Induction is electronics, and the diagnosis is board-level rather than a visual check.
That is why the price band on this page is wider than on any other appliance we cover, and why the type matters more than the symptom when you are guessing at cost. If you are deciding between fuel types for a replacement kitchen, gas versus electric appliances and replacing a glass cooktop surface are the two pages worth reading first.
Brands are the usual list, Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE, Bosch, Frigidaire, KitchenAid, Electrolux and Jenn-Air, plus the premium built-in lines: Wolf, Thermador, Viking and Miele. Where a kitchen has a separate cooktop and wall oven, both get looked at on the same visit.
Related guide: microwave not heating.
On gas cooktops the first question is whether it is one burner or all of them, and the answer splits the whole diagnosis: gas stove burner not lighting.
Guide: electric stove burner not working, including why two burners dying together is one lost supply leg.

Each appliance has a page of its own covering how it fails, what the repair costs and when replacing beats fixing. If the machine giving you trouble is not the one on this page, start with its own.
