A dryer that runs a full cycle and leaves clothes damp is usually not a broken dryer. It is a vent problem, and the vent is also the reason dryers catch fire. That is why we check airflow before we quote a heating element, and why the cheapest visit on this page is often the most useful one. The diagnostic is $99 and is waived when you approve the repair, every job carries a 90-day parts-and-labour warranty, and we work ten metro areas. Florida and general (863) 474-2970, Texas (281) 205-1474.
Heat and airflow are two different systems and both have to work. The heating element or gas igniter makes the heat, thermostats and the thermal fuse keep it in range, and the blower plus the vent run carry the moisture out of the house. Kill the airflow and the machine overheats, trips the thermal fuse and stops heating, and the part everybody blames is the element that was never the problem.
Long vent runs, crushed foil hose behind the machine and lint packed inside the duct are the usual causes. A restricted run makes the dryer work two or three cycles to do one cycle of drying, which is both an energy bill and a genuine fire risk, since lint at that temperature is fuel.
| Repair | Typical cost, parts and labour |
|---|---|
| Thermal fuse | $100 to $180 |
| Drive belt | $100 to $200 |
| Heating element | $150 to $330 |
| Gas igniter | $150 to $300 |
| Control board | $150 to $350 |
| Vent cleaning or clear blocked run | $90 to $160 |
| Drum rollers or glides | $120 to $230 |
| Blower wheel | $120 to $240 |
Figures are the medians of the ranges already published on our nine metro dryer pages, for parts and labour on a named repair. The $99 diagnostic sits outside them and comes off when you approve the work.
Each of these costs nothing and each one resolves a real share of the calls we get. A technician arriving to do something you could have done in five minutes is a bad outcome for both of us.
Lint gets past the screen and packs the housing underneath. A vacuum crevice tool down that slot restores airflow on a surprising number of machines.
Crushed foil hose behind the machine is the most common airflow restriction we find, and straightening or replacing it is a five-minute job.
Weak or no air at the outside flap means the run is blocked, and no part inside the dryer will fix that.
| What you notice | Usual suspects, cheapest first |
|---|---|
| Runs the full cycle, clothes still damp | Vent restriction first, then heating element or thermostat |
| No heat at all | Thermal fuse, then heating element on electric, igniter or valve coils on gas |
| Shuts off partway through | Overheating from restricted airflow, then a failing thermostat |
| Loud rumble or squeal | Drum rollers or glides, then the idler pulley, then the blower wheel |
| Will not start at all | Door switch, then the start switch, then the control board |
Dryers are the cheapest of the major appliances to keep alive. Elements, fuses, thermostats, belts and rollers are inexpensive and the machine is simple to work on, so the honest answer is usually repair. The exception is a control board on a budget machine, where the part price approaches the price of a new dryer, and there we will tell you plainly. If you want to run the numbers yourself first, the repair-vs-replace calculator and the appliance lifespan database are the two pages worth ten minutes.
Twenty-nine cities have their own dryer page, written for that city rather than copied from a template. If your address is in one of them, start there.
Every city we cover is on the locations index, with Florida and Texas hubs. Not listed? Call anyway, we cover a wider area than we have pages for.
Before approving a larger dryer repair, check where the machine sits in its life and whether the duct is the real fault: how long dryers last.
Running but not heating is the most common dryer call we take, and two of its causes cost nothing to rule out: why a dryer will not get hot.
A new noise is worth booking before it becomes a second repair: what each dryer noise means.
The most common dryer complaint we take is damp clothes rather than no heat, and the first three checks are free: why a dryer will not dry.
Choosing the cycle correctly saves ironing and fibre: what permanent press means on a dryer.
Most of the dryer repairs we attend trace back to airflow, and this is the maintenance that prevents them: how to clean a dryer vent.
A dead dryer and a lit-but-inert one are two different repairs: dryer not turning on.

Each appliance has a page of its own covering how it fails, what the repair costs and when replacing beats fixing. If the machine giving you trouble is not the one on this page, start with its own.
