Appliance Repair in Jonesboro, GA
Appliance Repair in Jonesboro, GA
Jonesboro is a town of houses with yards: 24,548 of its 34,477 units are detached, seventy-one per cent, with another 966 manufactured homes, and the stock spreads evenly from the 1970s to the 2000s. Houses with yards mean dogs and cats, and pets change appliance maintenance in a way almost nobody is told about: hair does not stay on the floor — it is drawn into the exact places an appliance needs air. A matted condenser, a blinded lint filter and a blocked vent are three of the most common faults we are called to here, and all three are free to prevent.
- A refrigerator sheds its heat through a coil that hair blocks first — then it runs constantly and still drifts warm
- A dryer that hair has slowed down overheats, and the part that then fails is a one-shot cut-out
- Median finished repair in our own book: $355, middle half $255 to $427
- Call (470) 412-9335, or book online. Tell us if there are pets in the house
Appliance down in Jonesboro?
Make, model number, what the machine does — and whether there are pets in the house. That last one sounds odd on an appliance call and it genuinely changes what we check first on refrigeration and laundry. The $99 diagnostic is applied to the repair.
Where the Hair Actually Goes
Appliances move air. A refrigerator pulls room air across a condenser to dump heat, a dryer pulls air through the drum and pushes it outside, a dishwasher and a washer breathe far less but still collect what comes in on the laundry. Anything light and airborne ends up where that air passes fastest.
- The refrigerator condenser. On most free-standing machines it is underneath at the front or across the back, behind a grille. Hair and dust mat into the fins until air cannot pass, and the machine can no longer shed heat. The symptoms read exactly like a failing compressor: running almost constantly, warm in the fresh-food compartment, hot cabinet sides. Sub-Zero’s published guidance for built-in refrigeration says to clean the condenser every three to six months and more often where there are pets — the same logic applies to a free-standing machine even though nobody prints it on the door
- The dryer lint filter and the duct. Pet hair binds with lint into a mat that a quick pull of the filter does not remove, and a restricted dryer overheats. The protection on most machines is a one-shot thermal fuse designed to fail permanently rather than trip and reset, so the end of that chain is a dryer that does nothing at all
- The washer’s pump filter. Hair wraps around the impeller and combines with lint and coins. It is behind a small door at the bottom front of most front-loaders, and clearing it is free
- The dishwasher filter, where hair arrives on plates and bowls that the dog has helpfully pre-cleaned
The pet-household maintenance list, in full: vacuum the refrigerator condenser every three months rather than once a year; wash the dryer lint filter in warm soapy water monthly, because the film left by hair and fabric softener passes no air even when the filter looks clean; check the outside dryer vent flap opens fully; clear the washer pump filter every few months; and rinse the dishwasher filter. That is fifteen minutes a season and it prevents the three most common calls on this page.
Washing Pet Bedding Without Killing the Machine
The other half of the problem is what goes into the drum.
- Shake bedding out before it goes in. What comes off in the drum ends up in the pump and the drain, and hair is the one thing a washer cannot dissolve
- Sand and grit from a yard are abrasive. They wear pump impellers and seals, which is a slow, expensive failure rather than a dramatic one
- Do not overfill. A single heavy dog bed cannot distribute itself, and a machine that cannot balance slows the spin, retries and eventually wears its suspension
- Run a hot clean cycle monthly if pet loads are frequent. Hair plus detergent residue is what makes a machine smell, and that is maintenance rather than a fault — our Duluth page covers the routine in full
- Clean the door gasket fold after pet loads. It traps hair in a place that stays damp
None of this means pets and appliances do not mix. It means the maintenance interval is shorter than the manual assumes, because the manual was written for a house with no shedding animal in it.
What This Town Is Made Of
| Measure | Units | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Detached houses | 24,548 | 71% |
| Built in the 1980s | 7,385 | 21% |
| Built in the 2000s | 6,958 | 20% |
| Built in the 1990s | 6,062 | 18% |
| Built in the 1970s | 5,892 | 17% |
| Built in the 1960s | 3,224 | 9% |
| Manufactured homes | 966 | 3% |
| Occupied, rented | 12,194 | 39% of occupied |
| All housing units | 34,477 | 100% |
No single decade owns this town — the 1970s through the 2000s each hold between seventeen and twenty-one per cent — so the age of the house tells us less here than the installation does. What it does mean is that a great many of these homes are on their second or third appliance set, fitted by whoever delivered them rather than by whoever built the house.
The 966 manufactured homes are their own case: floor construction, appliance sizes and how services are routed all differ, and our Zephyrhills page covers that in detail.
With 39 per cent of occupied homes rented, settle who arranges the work before anything else: an appliance supplied with the home is normally the landlord’s under the lease, one you bought is yours. Report a landlord’s appliance in writing as well as by phone and describe what the machine does rather than diagnosing it. Our Union City page covers the case where a rented home is newer and the manufacturer may still be liable.

Cooktops we do repair, but we have too few finished cooktop repairs of our own to publish a median that would mean anything, so we quote from the cooking-appliance figure and give you the real part cost on the visit.
The Free Checks Worth Doing First
- Fridge running constantly: pull it out and vacuum the condenser. In a pet household this alone fixes a surprising share of warm-fridge calls
- Dryer taking two cycles: wash the lint filter in warm soapy water, then check the outside vent flap opens fully with a strong warm flow
- Washer not draining: clear the pump filter behind the small door at the bottom front
- Check door seals with a sheet of paper — it should grip all the way round on a fridge or a freezer
- Dishwasher not cleaning: pull and rinse the filter, and check the spray arm holes are clear
- Second thermal fuse on the same dryer: stop replacing the part and deal with the duct
- Anything dead: breaker and any GFCI outlet first

What the Work Costs
These are our own completed repairs, not a manufacturer’s estimate and not an industry average. A completed repair means a job billed above the diagnostic fee with tax, $108.90 — the machine was fixed, and parts and labour are inside the figure. The diagnostic is $99 and it is applied to the repair when you go ahead.
| Category | Median | Middle half | Repairs |
|---|---|---|---|
| All appliances | $355 | $255 to $427 | 668 |
| Refrigeration | $375 | $250 to $462 | 247 |
| Washers | $352 | $257 to $416 | 159 |
| Dryers | $354 | $284 to $390 | 136 |
| Dishwashers | $308 | $254 to $375 | 64 |
| Cooking appliances | $363 | $291 to $458 | 62 |
Refrigeration is our largest category with 247 finished repairs and the widest middle half, $250 to $462 — the distance between a fan motor and a sealed-system fault. That spread is the reason a warm fridge in a pet household is worth diagnosing rather than guessing: the cheap end of that range and a free afternoon with a vacuum cleaner are two very different bills. Our repair or replace calculator weighs a repair against a new machine plus delivery and installation, and our real repair cost data breaks the figures down by component.
The Jonesboro note. Where we find the fault is airflow rather than a component, we clean it, show you where it collects and tell you the interval — that is worth more to you than a part. Where a cut-out or a pump has already been destroyed by months of running restricted, we replace it and fix the cause at the same visit, because otherwise you are buying the same part twice.
What to Tell Us When You Book
- Whether there are pets in the house, and roughly how much they shed
- When the condenser or the dryer duct was last cleaned — not knowing is an answer too
- Whether this part has been replaced before, and how long ago
- Make and model number, usually inside the fridge or behind a laundry machine’s lower panel
- Whether the home is a manufactured home, because sizes and access differ
- Who approves the work, if you rent
Around Jonesboro
We cover Jonesboro and the surrounding Clayton County area. North, Forest Park covers what we find when somebody has repaired a machine before us and Union City covers warranty on rented homes; east, Decatur is crawlspace country where supply lines freeze; north west, Douglasville covers gas appliances and their connectors. The full list of towns is on our service area page.
East, Stockbridge covers the machines you inherit with a house: what to photograph, which shut-offs to find, and what is usually wrong with an appliance set nobody has maintained.
South, Hampton covers the dishwasher side of the same question — not drying, not cleaning and not draining are three different faults, and only one of them is usually a part.
